The Luverne Tigers unleashed a potent offense and a rock solid defense on their region foe, the Hayneville Lions Friday night. The Tigers scored early and often and they were able to clear their bench as every one clad in Tiger red was able to participate in the 56-6 win.

The first Tiger TD came on their first drive; it covered 65 yards and took only 2 plays, as Ryan McGhee took a handoff from QB Monterio May and raced 43 yards for the score. The PAT was kicked by Cody Chrzastek. McGhee also scored the next Tiger TD on a 68 yard run on their next possession, and Chrzastek again split the uprights for the PAT. The third Tiger score came on a 24 yard run by Lance Brooks. The kick by Chrzastek was good, and with 5:34 left in the first quarter, the Tigers led 21 to 0.

On their next possession the Tigers went to the airways to get their touchdown as May hit McGhee on a 35 yard pass and run play; the PAT was good again as Chrzastek split the uprights. The final TD of the first quarter came via the airways again as May dropped back and hit Lonnie Freeman for the Tiger score. But this time the PAT failed, but at the end of the first quarter the Tigers led by a score of 34 to 0.

The second quarter was just as productive for Luverne as they added 22 more points to the board. On their first play of the quarter Cody Chrzastek took a handoff from May and raced 35 yards for the next Tiger score, he then added his own PAT. The next Tiger touchdown came at the end of a 5-play, 59-yard drive; it came on a 27 yard scamper by Adam Foster. Chrzastek booted the PAT to give the Tigers a 48 point lead. The final Tiger tally came on a 9 yard run by Tige Townsend; it capped a 5 play, 52 yard drive. The PAT was good on a run by Shaquille Lowery. So with the first half in the books the Tigers had made recent history, and probably history in itself, as they had scored 56 unanswered points in one half.

The lone Lion score came in the fourth quarter as Danny Dudley raced 25 yards for the touchdown; the PAT was blocked. But give the devil his due, none of this would have come to pass if the Tiger linemen had not opened the way for their backs. Gaping holes were opened by trench men such as Michael Norman at center and Robert Freeman, Cody Smith, Paul Lesley, Isaac Sanders on the interior line and ends Lonnie Freeman and Desmond Harrell. Also, unselfish blocking by fullback such as Seth Woods open the way for the Tiger runners to find pay dirt. Wide outs Walter Barber, Evan Richardson, Deon Brantley, Brandon McGhee and Devin McGhee ran perfect routes on their pass plays and had tremendous down field blocks for their backs to cut off of for their gains. Underclassmen such as Forrest Ray, Ben Boyd, Ladorian Jackson, Quez Redmond, William Killough, Nick McManigle, Zack Wilson, Nathan Davis, Kendrick Pugh and Donte McCall all played a tremendous game and gave an outstanding effort in the win. Other Tigers giving their all were Tevin White, Brandon McGhee, Devin McGhee, Dranarris Lovejoy and senior running back Lenny Brooks.

Central will travel to Calhoun this week for another region game, while the Luverne Tigers will host Choctaw County in a key region game. Kick off for both games is 7 p.m.
