The Greenville TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Party Association has slated a second event for concerned taxpayers at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 12, on the steps of City Hall in Greenville.

President of the association, Ron Gibson, is anticipating a large turnout in a show of support not only for local issues, but also for the National TEA Party being held simultaneously in Washington, D.C.

While the D.C. event is a weekend-long affair, Gibson expects the local gathering to conclude by 11 a.m. to avoid conflict with fans who have loyalty not only to their country, but to college football as well. Free sweet tea will be offered, and attendees are encouraged to hear red, white and blue, patriotic costume or authentic clothing.

Featured speaker for the Greenville event is retired Captain Charles R. Parker, (USN, ret.), chaplain. Parker earned and was awarded the Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Naval Commendation Medal with Combat V, Combat Action Medal and nine different unit and area ribbons.

He spent 30 years on active duty and is currently employed as vice president for development at the Baptist College of Florida in Graceville. Parker has earned degrees from Mercer University, Troy State University, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and Thomas University.

The Greenville TEA Association emphasizes it is a grassroots effort, non-partisan, open and welcoming to all races, genders, ethics, religious beliefs, et al. The association urges participants from Greenville and surrounding counties and communities to be a part of this event as they try to appeal to common sense and concern for the nation.
