After going scoreless in the preseason jamboree, Fort Dale went on to hang half a hundred on Prattville Christian in a 52-6 win Friday night.

“We played pretty good, but we were just more physical than they were and manhandled them,” said head coach Speed Sampley.

PCA was running a version of the spread offense, and Fort Dale’s defense took advantage of that on the first three possessions.

Daniel Nolan picked off a pass on the first possession, which set up a 30-yard drive and his six-yard touchdown run.

Later in the first quarter, Dustin Till picked off a pass that Sean McKeague converted into points with a 22-yard field goal.

The Eagles exploded in the second quarter with four touchdowns.

A Todd Burkett interception led to a drive and a quarterback sneak by Hunter Armstrong, and Armstrong also connected with Steven Till and Luke Hutcheson on touchdown passes of 25 and 36 yards, respectively, before the half was over.

A Nolan run with 1:32 to go before the break gave FDA a 38-0 lead, but PCA scored a minute and 21 seconds later to avoid getting shut out.

Another touchdown by Nolan and a special teams play where Daniel Lowe blocked a punt and recovered it in the endzone gave the final score of 52-6.

“We ran it pretty well and threw it when we wanted to,” Sampley said. “We also smacked them pretty good on defense.”

The Eagles had 211 yards rushing and 131 passing. Nolan had 16 carries for 128 yards, while Armstrong went 6-8 for 131 yards through the air. Hutcheson was the leading receiver with 65 yards. Defensively, Lowe had 12 tackles and Cooper Lewis added eight.

“I think a lot of guys had a good night for us,” Sampley said. “That’s a good way to start, but we’ve got three or four region games in a row and those are the ones that get you where you’re going.”
