Greenville took a trip to neighboring Crenshaw County last Friday night for a jamboree and came away with a pair of 21-6 wins.

The first win of the night came over Daleville.

Mikwese Claybourne had a key first-down catch to keep the drive alive inside the red zone, and Cordez Peagler sealed the deal with a three-yard run to put the Tigers up by two scores.

Defense put the Tigers in position for their third touchdown of the night.

After a big hit on the quarterback, Kenneth Carter recovered a fumble on Luverne’s 12-yard line, and Ryan Smith connected with Claybourne on an out route for a touchdown.

Daleville’s only score came on the ensuing kickoff, which went 95 yards for a touchdown.

Greenville went down early against Luverne, but came back with a long drive and a three-yard run by Smith.

Once again, special teams played a key role for Greenville, but this time it was in the Tigers’ favor.

On a Luverne punt, Marcus Peters blocked the kick and Jamal Hamilton covered it up in the endzone to put Greenville up 14-6.

Smith capped the game with a 20-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.

“We improved from the scrimmage last week, and that was good,” Blackmon said.

“We also got a lot of kids we weren’t sure about into the game so we could see how they’d do and evaluate that.”

Special teams played a key role for Greenville in both games and on both sides of the ball.

“Our special teams were pretty good, but we had a couple of mistakes that cost us touchdowns,” he said. “I’m proud of the whole team and their attitude.”

The Tigers face a big test this week when rival Charles Henderson of Troy comes to town.

Greenville has had a pair of tough losses to CHHS in recent years, falling 17-14 in 2007 and 24-19 last year.

“Charles Henderson is a good team, and that’s going to be a big test for us,” Blackmon said. “It’s going to be a good game, but we’ve got a lot to work on before then.”
