Tigers to end week with lock-in

Last week ended in a scrimmage for the Greenville Tigers, and this week is set to end with a scrimmage and a lock-in for the team.

Head coach Ben Blackmon said he was impressed with his team’s defense during last Friday’s scrimmage.

“The defense won, and that’s a pretty good indication that the defense is ahead of the offense right now, but everybody’s got a lot of work to do,” he said.

The game marked the first time the Tigers had squared off against each other in full pads, and Blackmon said the offense impressed him with their control of the ball.

“We made some mistakes on offense, but one thing we didn’t do was turn the ball over,” he said. “Usually on the first day, when you’re really getting hit for the first time, there are a lot of fumbles or interceptions, but that didn’t happen and I’m proud of that.”

For the second year in a row, the Tigers will also be having a team lock-in at the practice facility.

“It helps us get closer as a team, and the kids had a good time with it last year,” Blackmon said. “We don’t have the finances to take them all off to camp, so we make do with what we have.”

The scrimmage is set for 4 p.m. on Friday and the public is invited.
