After two weeks of two-a-days, the Fort Dale Eagles will finally get a chance to line up against another team when they take on Crenshaw Christian in a scrimmage this Thursday.

Fort Dale head coach Speed Sampley said this scrimmage will be more like a practice than a game.

“We’re going to have coaches out on the field, so it’s going to be more like practice than a game,” Sampley said.

Running plays against another team has a number of advantages, according to Sampley.

“By this point, the kids are tired of hitting each other,” Sampley said. “Also, when you’re running the same pass plays in practice, the defense knows what to expect. After practicing against each other so much, sometimes when we line up they know what we’re going to do.”

The advantages of the scrimmage go beyond the players to the sideline.

“From a coaching standpoint, you like to see guys on the other side of the ball,” Sampley said.

The scrimmage is set for 5 p.m. Thursday at Fort Dale.
