After a strong showing in the district tournament, the Greenville Dixie Belles All-Stars ran into some trouble in the state tournament, falling to Decatur 11-1 and Montgomery 3-2.

The Decatur game was the first of the tournament for Greenville, and the only run of the game came when Flomeka McWilliams drove in Cortnee Meyers.

Despite the big loss, Greenville bounced back in the second game.

“I was really proud of how they responded in the second game,” said coach Leon Truitt. “We had a lot of breakdowns in the first game, and the second game was a whole lot better.”

Greenville led 2-0 after RBIs from Nikia Powell and Cortnee Meyers brought across runs from Powell and Marvia Scott.

Despite holding the lead into the seventh inning, Montgomery scored three times in the final frame to win the game.

“The girls did a great job, and I’m really proud of the season we had,” Truitt said. “We’ve got a young group, and eight of them should be back for us next year. We’re only losing four, so that means those eight have gotten some good experience. I’m proud of them.”
