The ADIR said that 1,289 people were unemployed in Butler County in May. That number will likely increase in the coming months as more displaced workers from Chapman Forest Products file for unemployment. The company announced plans to shutdown in June, which leaves an estimated 263 people out of work.

By August, Butler County’s unemployment could meet or exceed the 17.1 percent of August 1999, which is the county’s highest unemployment rate in the last 20 years, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.
