Despite making their way to the championship game, the Greenville Dixie Boys were unable to take out the Troy All-Stars in last week’s tournament.

In the opening game, Greenville trailed 8-0 going into the sixth inning, but Troy blew the game open and won 19-0.

Cade Tillery had Greenville’s only hit.

Greenville fought back in the second game, defeating Eufaula 8-7 in eight innings.

Tillery had a strong pitching performance and went six innings before Chip Taylor came in in relief.

With the bases loaded in the eighth inning, Michael Smith drew a two-out walk to bring in the winning run.

At the plate, Greenville got two hits from Taylor, Tillery, and Jeffrey Fuller, while Chase Whiddon, James Burkett, Smith and Brady Clark also had hits.

Greenville continued to make their way through the losers’ bracket with a 12-5 win over Eufaula in the third game.

“We had a great night at the plate and really killed it the last two innings,” said head coach Keith Taylor. “We had a lot of hits.”

Down 5-2 after three innings, the bats came alive and Greenville got hits from Taylor, Michael Meyers, Whiddon, Smith, Fuller, Zach Looney and Brady Clark, while both Tillery and Caleb Whigham had two hits each.

That win set up a rematch with Troy for the championship, and Troy came away with an 11-0 win that ended Greenville’s season.

“Cade and James pitched well for us, but we just ran out of gas,” Taylor said.

Meyers, Tillery and Whiddon had the only hits for Greenville in the game.
