The Greenville Dixie Youth blasted Brantley in the opening game of the All-Star tournament in Luverne on Tuesday night and haven’t looked back since.

In that game, Greenville beat Brantley 14-2 before topping New Brockton 17-0 in the second round and winning 16-0 over Elba on Thursday night.

One of the highlights for Greenville has been the pitching performances.

In three games, Greenville has only played 14 innings, which is a total of 42 outs.

Of those 42 outs, 36 have come from strikeouts.

“Our pitching is carrying us, but we’ve also been hitting a little bit, too,” laughed head coach Kenny Burkett.

Against Elba, Ryan Burkett struck out eight batters and only allowed one hit while Payton Frazier came in and closed the game.

Landon Smothers, Colby Booker and Drake Cabe also combined to shut out New Brockton.

“We’ve really been hitting well all the way through the lineup,” Burkett said. “From leadoff to number 12, there’s not a weak spot.”

That fact is evident when looking at the stats from the win over Elba.

Burkett and Smothers each went 2-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, Payton Frazier was 1-3 with three RBIs, Nick Hartley went 2-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, Colby Booker was 1-2 with a double and an RBI, Cody Harrell went 2-2 with an RBI, Matthew Sheffield was 2-2 with two RBIs and Austin Vickery was 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

However, the hottest hitter for Greenville was Drake Cabe, who was 3-3 with four RBIs, including two doubles and a three-run home run.

“Drake is hitting really well for us,” Burkett said. “Ryan and Landon are getting on base to lead off the order, and Payton and Drake are doing a great job of bringing them in.”

In the 17-0 win over New Brockton, Greenville got RBIs from William Smith, Cabe, Hartley, Vickery, Weeks, House, Smothers, Frazier and Booker, who led the team with five RBIs.

Against Brantley, Greenville was held scoreless in the first two innings but broke out with runs from Burkett, Smothers, Frazier, Cabe, Hartley, Smith, Weeks, Sheffield and Vickery to blow the game open.

Greenville faced off against Kinston at 8 p.m. last night, but results were unavailable at press time.

A win would put Greenville in the championship game today.
