Butler County sheriff’s deputies arrested an Atlanta, Georgia woman on Friday, charging her with passing a counterfeit $100 bill at the Chevron convenience store in Georgiana.

Crystal Joy Holloway, 21, was charged with possession of counterfeit money and has apparently passed similar bills at numerous other stores in Mississippi and Alabama, said Sheriff Kenny Harden.

Harden said his office has receipts from at least 13 stores – Victoria’s Secret, Aeropostale, and Wal-Mart among others – where Holloway is alleged to have paid with $100 bills.

The bill used by Holloway on Friday, said Harden, was actually $5 currency that had been bleached and printed over bearing the markings of a $100 bill. Harden said the cashier at the Chevron held the bill up to the light and noticed the subtle image of Abraham Lincoln beneath the ink.

“The clerk caught it and called 911,” said Harden.

Holloway is incarcerated in the Butler County Correctional Facility.
