The Greenville Dixie Ponytails All-Stars gave strong efforts in two weekend tournament games, but came up short in both contests.

In the first game on Friday, Greenville faced off against the Elba All-Stars, and Elba started the game with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.

In the top of the second, some attentive baserunning earned Greenville a run.

Ashley Ballard got caught in a run-down between second and third base, but an errant throw went into the dugout and Ballard was awarded home plate.

Down 2-1, Greenville loaded the bases but was unable to score again.

After Elba put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the second, Greenville got hot in the top of the third.

Greenville got RBIs from Bethany Nolen, Whitney Boswell, Tansey Durant and a base-clearing triple from Ballard to go ahead 7-4.

However, Greenville was unable to hold onto the lead, and Elba won the game 17-7.

The loss set Greenville up for a game against Covington County on Saturday.

Greenville fell behind early, trailing 6-0 in the third inning, but they fought back.

In the third, Mallorie Lewis drew a walk, and she was brought home by Amber Bedgood.

Before the end of the inning, Greenville cut the lead in half with hits from Keisha Rice and Boswell.

Covington County responded with five runs in the top of the fourth, but Greenville put three runs on the board from Chasity Elliot, Durant and Ballard to make the score 11-6.

Then the wheels fell off for Greenville.

Covington County unloaded with nine runs in the fifth inning to make the final score 20-6.

The pair of losses put Greenville out of the tournament.
