Joy Ellison Dixon

DIXON, Ms. Joy Ellison, 55, a resident of Highland Home and formerly of Pensacola, FL died suddenly Tuesday, June 16, 2009. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. William Leverette officiating. Interment followed in the Sweetwater Cemetery, Highland Home, AL with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Ms. Dixon was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas M. and Exa Thomas Ellison. Survivors include one son, Patrick (Dixie) McMillian of Pensacola; one grandson, Gaige McMillian; a brother, Tom Ellison of Pensacola; and special friends, Roger Williams and Archie Ray.

Charles R. Layton

LAYTON, Mr. Charles R. “ Charlie “, 76, a resident of Highland Home and formerly of Talladega died Friday, June 19, 2009 after an extended illness. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2009 at the Rocky Mount Cemetery with Rev. William Leverette officiating and Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Layton was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Sanders Layton; son, David Baker; parents, Fred and Pauline Layton; and a brother, John Allen Layton. Survivors include six children, Becky Moore, Susan Layton, Melanie (Kenneth) Sawyer, Scott (Mechelle) Baker, Vicki (Wayne) Benton and Tracey Henderson; nine grandchildren, Megan Moore, Jared Parker, Amanda (Terry) Kelley, Kelsi Baker, Loren Hoffman, Kyler Henderson, Madison Baker, Kendall Henderson and Allison Benton; three great-grandchildren, Hunter, Summer and Dylan Kelley; and one sister, Margaret McCurdy. Active pallbearers were Larry Leverette, Haywood Cowles, T.H. Cowles, Tommy Tompkins, Richard Jinright and Perry Reynolds.

Clemont Carpenter, Jr.

CARPENTER, Clemont (Monty), Jr., age 54, of Montgomery, Alabama, died June 23, 2009. Mr. Carpenter was born October 15, 1954, in Luverne, Alabama, to Clemont and the late Emma Jean Foster Carpenter. Monty is survived by his beloved wife, Pamela and two sons, William and Richard; his father, Clemont Carpenter (Sarah) of Luverne; his brothers, John (Diane) Carpenter of Montgomery; Alan (Angela) Carpenter of Luverne; James (Paula) Carpenter of Prattville; and his sister, Angela (Howard) Garrison of Panama City, Florida.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 25, at the First United Methodist Church of Montgomery at 1 p.m. A visitation was held at the family home Wednesday, June 24, beginning at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Crenshaw Christian Academy in Luverne, Trinity Presbyterian School, the Stegall Seminary Scholarship Fund, or a charity of your choice.
