Patricia A. Strops

STROPS, Mrs. Patricia A., 62, a resident of Greenville died Saturday, May 23, 2009. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 2 p.m. from Bethel Methodist Church with Pastor Gayle Woodard and Rev. Charles Phillips officiating and Harrison Funeral Home directing. Interment followed in Perdue Cemetery. Mrs. Strops lay in repose one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Survivors include her husband, Junior Ray Strops, Greenville; five daughters, Jackie (Mike) Stuckey, McKenzie, Ala., Missy (Jerry) Halford, Greenville, Karen (Chris) Hutto, Wetumpka, Jane (Audrey) Mitchell, Mobile, Janet (Peter) Morgan, Honoraville; 3 sisters, Carolyn McNair, Dothan, Roberta Giddens, Dadeville, and Juanita Proveaux, Greenville; 7 grandchildren.

Eunice Wynnette Tucker Welch

Eunice Wynnette Tucker Welch went to be with the Lord May 25, 2009, after a long and bravely fought illness. Preceded in death by her loving husband, James Edward Welch, Sr., she was the daughter of the late Nettie Lillian Holley Tucker and Horace Henry Tucker. She was born in Luverne, Alabama, on October 22, 1928, in her grandmother’s house on Jeffcoat Street, and she died at her home near Rutledge. She was 80 years old.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Chapel Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Moses officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Active pallbearers were Jason Butts, Mike Jones, Bill Krysak, Charles McGuffey, Bartley Welch and Jeffrey Welch. Honorary pallbearers were Hugh Bagents, John Pete Tucker and Hosea Butler.

Wynnette Welch was an avid genealogist who many people went to for help in tracing their lineage. Descended from Scottish ancestors, she was a member of the Mayflower Society, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a direct descendent of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower.

A son, William Henry Welch, Sr., preceded her in death. Surviving are three children and their spouses: Mary Lucy McGuffey (Charles), of Seale, Ala.; Susan Hope Krysak (Bill), of Columbus, Ga.; and James Edward Welch, Jr., (Gena), of Luverne. Her grandchildren are Emily Welch, Leah Grimes, Alex Davis, William Welch, Mayo Welch, Hope Daniels, and Greg Welch. She also leaves behind daughter-in-law Sherry Welch Morgan, several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A special thank-you from the family to Martha Foster, who she considered a dear friend and the sister she never had. The family wishes to also thank Alacare; the Greenville Dialysis Center; her caretakers, Betty Morrison and Vivian Pippins, and all the other wonderful people who helped her through the years.

She will be missed greatly by all, including her faithful dogs, Foxy, Maggie, Baby, and Jack.

Rebecca Bozeman Phillips

Rebecca Bozeman Phillips (Crowell), age 60, of Selma, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2009, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her brother, Walter James Bozeman III, father, Walter James Bozeman Jr., and mother, Jewel Frazier Bozeman. She is survived by her husband Frank E. Phillips, daughter, Catherine C. Steele (Jeff), son, Nathan A. Crowell (Jennifer), sisters, Janet B. Henderson (Edward) and Laura B. Howard (Tyson) and grandchildren Savannah G. Steele and Henry W. Steele.
