What if the characters from some of the world’s greatest fairy tales came together in a funny, whimsical original story?
That’s what happens in the Old Gym Players’ latest musical production at Greenville High School, set for three performances this weekend.
The Tony Award winning musical “Into the Woods” brings Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Jack (of Beanstalk fame) and all the other characters of these classic stories together on stage.
A village baker and his wife go a comedic quest to retrieve five special items for an evil witch in order to lift a curse of barrenness on them and, on the way, they interact with the characters familiar to all of us. All are questions answered in the course of the show, co-directed by GHS’s Naomi Pryor and GMS’s Chris Pryor, the husband-and-wife team who brought an entertaining “Fiddler on the Roof” to the high school last year.
“Miss” Millie McDonald provided vocal coaching for the cast members.
The “Into the Woods” cast will perform during the day on Friday for local elementary students. Public performances are set for Friday night at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $5 and are available in the front office and at the door.
