Greenville’s softball team picked up a big area win earlier this week over Monroe County by the score of 11-6.

Head coach Donna Sunnycalb said the keys to the game were pitching and field against MCHS.

“Nicole Norton did very well for us,” Sunnycalb said. “The defense was also solid. We did much better than five-plus errors we’ve been having.”

Norton recorded 10 strikeouts for the Tigers against MCHS.

She and Abby Blackmon each went 2-4 from the plate with a double.

Marvia Scott, Raquel Williams, Cortnee Meyers, Hollie Halford, Nikia Powell and Flomekia McWilliams all came through with hits.

“We’ve been playing better,” Sunnycalb said.

The Tigers also went to a tournament in Andalusia last weekend, where the Tigers defeated New Brockton, but lost to Andalusia and Rehoboth.

“We only lost to Rehoboth 2-1 after losing to them 13-1 earlier in the season in Troy,” Sunnycalb said. “We’re improving.”

The GHS junior varsity picked up their first win of the season against MCHS.

Te’lesha McDonald pitched for the Tigers, striking out 11, while Kenyatta Peterson and Brigette Patterson both had big days at the plate.

Because Wilcox Central has dropped their softball team, the Greenville varsity is already in the playoffs.

The Tigers are now 4-9 on the season.
