The Fort Dale girls extended their winning streak with a pair of wins against Crenshaw Christian on Tuesday, but it took extra innings in the second game to get there.

With CCA leading 3-2 heading into the sixth inning, the Cougars exploded for five runs in the top of the inning.

Fort Dale responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Eagles trailed 9-5 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

“Normally, I think we would have given up, but the bottom of the lineup got on and we started making excellent hits and stealing bases,” said head coach Scarlett Anderson.

Anne Blake Langford and Erin Taylor had singles and were helped along by four errors from CCA.

Katie Wilson hit a single to left field to score Taylor and tie the game at nine.

Heading into extra innings, Crenshaw started with a runner at second base due to the tiebreaker rules, and the Cougars went three up, three down in the inning.

With Abbey Martin on second base for the Eagles in the bottom of the inning, she advanced to third on a groundout by Murphy Middleton.

On a wild pitch, Martin took off from third and scored the winning run.

“That’s one of the most exciting games I’ve seen in a while,” Anderson said. “That’s why we tell them to never give up. Something happened, and we left with a win. Now we’re confident that we can do it.”

Lori Fail, Taylor and Wilson each had RBIs for the Eagles in that win.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Fort Dale won 8-4. The Eagles used two RBIs each from Erin Taylor and Tosh Taylor, along with RBIs from Fail, Wilson and Anne Blake Langford, to take the win.

Besides her strong defense, Anderson also said that Jordan Peavy played a big role for the Eagles at the plate.

“Jordan was on top of her game batting,” she said. “She hit as well as I’ve seen her hit. She helped the bottom of our lineup come through and was great all-around.”
