GHS JV Tigers claim second place in tourney

The Greenville High School Junior Varsity team picked up some well earned hardware Saturday night when they placed second in the Brantley JV Tournament.

The Tigers beat Luverne 2-1 in their last at bat in order to move on to face Ariton.

Harper Vinson threw four strong innings and Jerome Cook threw one scoreless inning to allow the Tigers the chance to win it in the bottom of the fifth.

Timothey Gorum had a huge pinch-hit single to start the the bottom half.

The next two hitters reached, bringing Gray Vinson to the plate with a chance to win the game.

Vinson hit a hard ground ball up the middle, allowing the winning run to score.

The semifinal game against Ariton ended with a score of 13-5.

G. Vinson and Brett Armstrong both pitched well, while Ozell Carter and Brandon Smith had big games at the plate.

The championship game against Brantley was 2-2 after the first inning.

The Tigers seemed to run out of gas after that, giving up seven runs in the second.

The Tigers were unable to answer the call with the game ending 9-2.
