Cougars enjoy 60-47 win over Patriots

The CCA Cougars faced off against the PLAS Patriots at home Saturday and ran off the court with a 60-47 win.

The Cougars got off to a nice start during the first period as Jake Hataway put in two points on the scoreboard.

Then Jelle Vermeyen helped to add to the early start with a total of six points accumulated by the last four minutes, which brought the score to 7-4, keeping CCA’s lead.

Eric Van Beek added two points with Hataway in for the assist within 3:46 of the first quarter, but Davis Layton submitted two points at the buzzer to end the first quarter with an 18-10 CCA lead.

Jake Page dunked in two points with Van Beek on the assist in the middle of the second period. However, the Cougars allowed the Patriots to put in 11 points on the scoreboard.

The Cougars headed to the locker room at halftime with a steady 27-21 lead over the Patriots.

The third quarter began as Jake Page put in two points for the 29-21 lead.

However, Van Beek displayed an impressive steal and backhand layup in the last 35 seconds of the period, before Layton submitted two points in the last five seconds, which locked in the 42-31 lead going into the final period.

Hataway started off early with a two-pointer and then with a foul shot in the fourth quarter, giving three points to the scoreboard for the Cougars.

Davis also submitted two points with Van Beek in for the assist at 4:48 left in the final quarter. CCA then called a timeout as the Cougars still held the lead on the scoreboard with 53-37.

Van Beek and Hataway accumulated a total of seven points by the end of the game, giving them a final 60-47 win over the Patriots.

The varsity boys of CCA played their last home game against Enterprise on Monday before regional’s and ended the regular season with an impressive 92-31 win.

Eric Van Beek lead the Cougars with 26 points followed by Jake Page with 14 points.

Davis Layton dropped in 10 points as Nate Philips put in 8 points and David Garrison had 6 points.

Lane Evans has three assists.

Monday night was also senior night.

The Cougars will play Friday night at Faulkner University in Montgomery in the Regional Tournament at 2:30 against Edgewood.
