Alabama coach comes calling at GHS

Alabama head coach Nick Saban visited Greenville on Wednesday morning on a recruiting trip, according to Greenville High School head football coach Ben Blackmon.

Saban and defensive coordinator Kirby Smart arrived at Mac Crenshaw Memorial Airport at approximately 8 a.m. Wednesday and spent time with Blackmon at GHS’s new athletic facility.

Blackmon said Saban was here to build a relationship with the Tigers’ coaching staff.

Saban also met Superintendent Mike Looney, assistant principals Ward Thigpen and Curtis Black, and posed for photographs.

The Crimson Tide is expected to have one of the top incoming freshman classes in the nation. Alabama’s 2009 recruiting class is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation, according to Rivals.com, while Scout.com lists the Tide’s class as No. 9.

National Signing Day for high school senior football players is Feb. 4.

Senior Tigers’ defensive lineman Jamontay Pilson committed to Auburn in March and remains committed to the Tigers.

Junior lineman Kenneth Carter (6-4, 267) is also garnering some attention from college coaches and has received an offer from Auburn as well, according to Rivals.com.
