CAROLYN JANE TURNER HENRY

A memorial service celebrating the life of Carolyn Jane Turner Henry, 85, of Luverne, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Troy. Her body has been given to medical science.

She died Monday, January 19, 2009, in Luverne. She was born October 16, 1923, in Luverne to George Eugene, Sr., and Jettie Hornsby Turner. She married The Rev. Charles L. Henry on September 1, 1945, in Luverne. After living in many places in Alabama, New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma, Mrs. Henry always felt she was privileged to be able to move back to her childhood home upon Fr. Henry’s retirement.

She was an active member of St. Mark’s Church in Troy, volunteered at the Luverne Public Library, and until recent years, was active in local bridge clubs. She was a graduate of The University of Alabama, where she was the editor of the Rammer Jammer. She served as the Society page editor of The Luverne Journal for many years.

Survivors include her daughter, Georgia Lynn Henry Gates and husband, Bob, of Tulsa, OK, son, Jimmy Henry of Early, TX, daughters-in-law, Jane Morgan Henry of Cockeysville, MD, and Becki Henry of Austin, TX, several grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Also, several nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gene and Jettie Turner, husband, Fr. Charles L. Henry, two sons, Chuck Henry and Gene Henry, and her brother and sister-in-law, George and Dee Turner.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Troy, the Luverne Public Library, or the charity of your choice.

PASCAL BYRON CARNES

CARNES, Mr. Pascal Byron, 90, a resident of Brantley, died Friday, January 16, 2009. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 18, 2009, at the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. William Leverette officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Ida Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dean Kelsoe Carnes; two daughters, Janet Cox of Wetumpka and Phyllis Carnes of Montgomery; one grandson, Paul Byron (Sandra) Cox of Wetumpka; and two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Peyton Cox. The family requests that any memorial donations be made to the Mt. Ida Cemetery Fund, % Brantley Bank and Trust Co., Brantley, AL 36009.

WILLIAM ELDRED THOMAS

THOMAS, Mr. William Eldred, 94, a resident of Highland Home, Ala., died Saturday, January 17, 2009. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, January 19, 2009, at the Salem Church of Christ with Charles Sipper and Davis Moorer officiating. Interment followed in the Salem Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, Abe and Mary Thomas; granddaughter, Heather Thomas; son-in-law, Sidney Posey; and five brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his wife of 71 and a half years, Fannie Cato Thomas; two children, Mattie Posey (Woodrow) Leslie of Lapine and John W. (JoAnn) Thomas of Highland Home; three grandchildren, Vicky Posey Register, Larry Posey and Alison Kirby; four great-grandchildren, Tonya Posey, Laken Thomas, Brandon Register and Nick Posey; three great-great-grandchildren, Mattie Claire Register Schofield, Hayden Kirby and Grayson Kirby; and a brother, Fred (Margie) Thomas. Active pallbearers were Winston Farrior, Roger Beckham, Calvert Duncan, Brandon Register, Danny Wayne Register and Larry Posey.

MYRTLE LOUISE FOSTER

CAMPBELL

Myrtle Louise Foster Campbell, 81, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, died in her home on Sunday, January 18, 2009. Myrtle was a native of Crenshaw County and also lived in Troy and in Andalusia.

Myrtle was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed flowers, and her gardening brought joy to those around her. She was a faithful member of the Esther Sunday School Class of Calvary Baptist Church. Myrtle also enjoyed painting, bowling with the Eager Beaver Bowling Team and playing bunco with her “Bunco Buddies.” She was a volunteer for Wiregrass Hospice.

Services were held at Byrd Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 21, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a graveside service at Green Hills Memorial Park in Troy at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Ed Wright officiating. Visitation was at Byrd Funeral Home Tuesday night, January 20, from 6:00 until 8:00.

Pallbearers were Cliff Bowden, Mike Bowden, Leslie Foster, William Petrey, Lee Wesson, and Sam Wesson. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Turner, the Esther Sunday School Class and her Bunco Buddies.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Ora Velma Turner Foster, her brother Hugh Turner Foster, and her husband David Eugene Campbell.

She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Campbell Head (Bobby) and Judy Campbell Wesson (Randy), one son, David E. Campbell, Jr. (Joanne), and five grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Wesson, Kathryn Elizabeth Campbell, Emily Claire Campbell, Samuel David Wesson, and Lee Campbell Wesson.

Her family wishes to thank the many friends who sent cards and food and visited Myrtle during her illness. A special thanks to Wiregrass Hospice for their compassion and care.

MORROW, Mr. Arnold E. “Pete”, 65, a resident of Montgomery, died Sunday, January 18, 2009. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2009, from Turner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Green and Rev. Butch Earnest officiating. Interment followed in Darien Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mr. Morrow is preceded in death by his parents, T.K. and Lucille Johnson Morrow, and his sister, Sherron M. Blue. He is survived by four aunts, Linnie Mae Moses, Voncille Shirley, Hazel Hodge, and Dixie Morrow, along with several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers were Larry Shirley, Jody Shirley, Tommy White, Donald Moses, Scott Johnson, and Keith Fowler. COOK, Mr. Cullen Lewis, 82, a resident of Brantley, Ala., died Monday, January 19, 2009. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2009, from Turner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Leverette and Rev. David Richburg officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Ida Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his son, Cullen Taylor Cook; parents, Ellot and Bessie Taylor Cook; and two brothers, Braxton and Verlon Cook. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nellie B. Cook; one brother, Augusta (Dorothy) Cook of Brantley;sister-in-law, Grace Cook of Phenix City; four nieces, Linda (Bobby) Hightower and Ann (Joe) Fletcher, all of Phenix City, Virginia, (Ricky) Compton and Susan (Donald) Carver, all of Brantley; two great-nephews and six great-nieces. In lieu of flowers the family request that any memorial donations be made to the Mt. Ida Cemetery, % Brantley Bank and Trust Co., Brantley, AL 36009. ANDREWS, Mr. Gerald Wayne, 51, a resident of Luverne, Ala., died Monday, January 19, 2009. Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of Harrison Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Phillips officiating and Harrison Funeral Home directing. Interment followed in Buckaloo Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Andrews, Luverne, daughters, Rylee E. Andrews, Luverne, and Haley Hawsey, Evergreen; sons, Gerald W. Andrews, Jr., Luverne, and Phillip Hicks, Wetumpka; brother, John W. Andrews, Luverne; niece, Amanda Acreman, Greenville; nephew, Jeff Andrews, Red Level; and 5 grandchildren.
