The Fort Dale girls held on for a 50-48 against Taylor Road Tuesday night to pick up a key region win.

After being knotted at 26 at halftime, Taylor Road pulled out to a 40-35 lead at the end of the third quarter.

FDA brought the game close, and then hit a few free throws and scored on the ensuing possessions to take the lead.

Despite picking up the win, head coach William Johnson said his team didn’t play well.

“We didn’t play well at all,” Johnson said. “We shot 24 percent from the field and still scored 50 points.”

That was possible because of strong rebounding.

Abbey Martin had 11 boards, and both Lori Fail and Murphy Middleton pulled down seven.

Scoring for the Eagles was spread evenly, with Middleton scoring 11 and Jessie Langford scoring 10.

Martin and Fail each added nine points.

The FDA boys had a rough night against Taylor Road as they suffered a 70-32 thumping.

“We just played bad and they played well,” Johnson said. “We didn’t compete well at the end of the game. We were flat all night and turnovers hurt us.”

Luke Hutcheson was the leading scorer with eight points.

Both teams have an important stretch of region games coming up, especially for the girls, who are 5-1 in the region.

“This stretch of games we’ve got coming up is crucial,” Johnson said. “We’ve got No. 1 Lee-Scott on Saturday and then No. 5 Pike on Tuesday.”

The Eagles will travel to Lee-Scott on Saturday.

Fort Dale will then continue the tough road trip with a visit to Pike Liberal Arts next Tuesday in Troy.
