Students in Greenville will have the chance to witness a historic event on Tuesday as the inauguration of the country’s first African-American president takes place.

At Greenville High School, assistant principal Curtis Black said all classroom televisions throughout the high school would be tuned in for a portion of the day.

“We are going to allow all our students to witness the swearing in ceremonies,” Black said.

“After that, teachers who have written the event into their lesson plans as a teaching tool can continue to watch the Inauguration events with their students.”

At Greenville Elementary School, Dr. Tera Simmons said all her students would be watching the swearing-in ceremonies as well.

“We have our teachers doing individual projects in their classrooms related to Tuesday’s events,” the principal said.

The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at 8 a.m. Tuesday EST. The Inaugural Parade is set for 2:30 p.m. EST.

A number of inaugural balls are scheduled for that evening. A National Prayer service is set for Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday, January 21 with dignitaries and Americans of diverse faiths. For an update on all official inaugural events, please visit www.pic2009.org.
