Alabama has been introduced to a new tag this year.

With the proud “Sweet Home Alabama” slogan displayed from top to bottom, the new metal tag was launched on January 1, 2009.

“This design will last five years,” said Crenshaw County Probate Judge Jim Perdue.

Perdue says that a committee for the state designed the tag and that they will likely come up with a new design in five years.

The design of the tag is to showcase the coastal lines that Alabama has to offer.

“(The tag) reflects on Alabama’s beaches,” said Perdue.

The profits that come from the tag will benefit just as it would with any other tag that is state issued.

“Public safety, county profits and any other kind of state funds benefit from the taxes that the tag comes with,” said Perdue.

The taxes that from the tag depends on the value of the vehicle that one is using.

“The more expensive the car, the more the tax will be for the tag,” said Perdue.

The computers find the value of the car when you come in to register for your tag.

Any resident of Crenshaw County can come to the probate office and purchase the new tag.

As for the “One-Stop” tag procedure, Perdue says that it has been a success.

“It has been going great…we have had no complaints,” said Perdue. “Everybody is pretty much used to it.”

“We have had it for over a year, and it has been well received all over the state.”
