Ardis Lester Johnson

Funeral services for Mr. Ardis L. Johnson, 86, of Opelika were held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Pastor Adriane Lawler and Dr. Rusty Sowell officiating. Burial followed in Garden Hills Cemetery.

Visitation for Mr. Johnson was held from 6-8 p.m., Monday, January 12, 2009, at Fredericks Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnson, who passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2009, was born on June 14, 1922. Mr. Johnson was an avid gardener who took pride in his corn and tomatoes he grew. He also enjoyed southern gospel music, going to southern gospel singings, and traveling to the mountains and camping.

He attended Philadelphia Baptist Church and Providence Baptist Church.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife Mary Bell Johnson, a son, Johnny C. Johnson, three sisters and two brothers.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby L. and Nita Johnson of Auburn; daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Bo Ogle of Opelika; one brother, Edmon (Fannie) Johnson of Phenix City; five grandchildren, Annette (Tommy) Vordenbaum, Chris (Michelle) Johnson, Audra (Greg) Reagan, Mallory Ogle, and Matt Davis, all of Opelika; eleven great-grandchildren, Taylor Vordenbaum, Madison Vordenbaum, Ryan Johnson, Colin Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Kaelyn Ogle, Hannah Reagan, Lily Reagan, Jesse Reagan, Summer Reagan, and Brody Reagan, all of Opelika;

Fredericks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
