Even though the Luverne Lady Tigers trailed the Brantley Lady Bulldogs for almost the entire game Saturday afternoon, they managed to pull out a win on two TeAndra Burnett freethrows in the final seconds to come away with a 37-35 victory.

Both teams kept it close as they ended the first quarter with Luverne leading 9-8. Things stayed neck-and-neck as Brantley’s Eisha Person added a layup to pull the Bulldogs ahead 16-15 with 1:21 left in the second quarter. The two teams headed into halftime with Brantley leading 18-17.

With over six minutes left in the third quarter, Brantley began pulling ahead 22-19. They added four more points to that score within the next three minutes. Both teams showed lots of hustle, but the Lady Bulldogs began to capitalize on some of Luverne’s turnovers. Brantley was still in the lead 28-24 by the end of the third quarter.

With 2:46 left in the game, Brantley was still in the lead 33-30; however, despite some of Luverne’s wild passes, they remained alive and well in the game.

With 1:30 left on the clock, Brantley had pulled ahead 35-30, that is until Luverne’s Lakedria Hall hit a beautiful 3-pointer with just 58 seconds to go.

Luverne’s Ashley Hall drew a foul with 28 seconds left on the clock. She dropped in two freethrows, tying the score 35-35.

But it was TeAndra Burnett’s freethrows that sealed the win for Luverne as she drew a foul with 18 seconds on the clock. She hit both, putting the Lady Tigers in the lead 37-35, for the first time since the first quarter and allowed them to walk away with the win.
