The Greenville Lady Tigers’ 2009 got off to a rough start Saturday when the Calhoun Tigers dealt them a 50-32 defeat.

Calhoun held a 12-7 lead at the end of the first half, but Greenville went flat in the second quarter.

Calhoun used a 7-0 run to widen the margin and lead 27-15 at the break.

A pep talk at halftime didn’t help Greenville, and their struggles continued in the second half.

Calhoun led by as many as 23 points, but Greenville closed the gap in the fourth quarter.

“I think we underestimated them,” said head coach Ronald Bogan. “We came out really flat.”

“We also couldn’t hit anything outside,” he added.

The Tigers struggled with limited minutes from Amber Andrews, who injured her ankle in an off-the-court accident last week.

On the positive side, Bogan said Alexis Salter should be returning for the team next week.

“We’ve just got to be thankful this isn’t an area game and start getting healthy for Straughn and Wilcox,” Bogan said.
