Delatha Christian, owner of The Front Porch Tea Room in Brantley, came to her front porch and welcomed ten members of the 1947 LHS Classmates Lunch Bunch Thursday, December 11, at 11 p.m. This was a rainy, cold day, but once inside it was warm and cozy. The Tea Room was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The classmates were seated at round tables with white lace tablecloths with bright red squares in the center. In the center of each table was a 3-tiered dish of an assortment of homemade goodies to munch on. Delatha served peppermint flavored hot punch, coffee and tea. The classmates had a great time as they shared news of their families with each other and their plans for the holidays.

Margaret Nichols was presented a beautiful potted red poinsettia from the classmates in appreciation for all the work she does for The Lunch Bunch, keeping the scrapbook, mailing birthday cards, thinking of you cards, taking pictures and being the treasurer. While waiting for lunch to be served, the group held their annual Christmas ornament exchange.

Delatha served a delicious colorful salad plate at noon, along with a homemade cake for dessert. The members attending were Alice Curtis, Ramona Barrow, Mabel Little, Margaret Nichols, Florence Jeffcoat, Louise Morgan, Mattie Lula Jeffcoat, Edna Norsworthy, Adine Moseley, Voncille Nichols and Kathryn Evans.

The plans for the 2nd Thursday in January luncheon will be a brown bag lunch at Meadowcrest Community Room.

The second Tuesday meeting of South Luverne Baptist Church WMU was held in the fellowship hall of the church at 2:00 p.m., on December 9, 2008, with 18 ladies in attendance. Doris Rogers, Director, opened the meeting with prayer and a devotional. Sherrie Humphreys gave a wonderful informative message about our missionaries as she gave the Prayer Patterns Calendar. Betty Pippin and Shirley Gallagher were co-hostesses in charge of the December program. Shirley introduced Ms. Terry Knight, who gave a beautiful rendition on the piano and flute. Ms. Knight is a music teacher who gives private lessons in Greenville and Evergreen. Then Shirley introduced the guest speaker, Ann Tate, who gave a very informative talk on domestic violence. After the program, Betty and Shirley served refreshments. The hostesses also gave each person a Christmas ornament imprinted with WMU 2008. Everyone attending was given a Christmas gift. The fellowship hall was decorated in a traditional Christmas theme.

The group from Meadowcrest Community who attended the recent Shelia Jackson & Company Christmas Concert were not disappointed. This concert was held at The Claudia Crosby Theatre on Troy University Campus. Shelia, along with many other talented musicians and vocalists, gave an outstanding performance. Sometimes the audience was brought to their feet in appreciation of this evening of entertainment that included a variety of music. Those enjoying this special concert from Meadowcrest were Edna Norsworthy, Mary Stewart, Damacio Rogers and David Duckworth.

The Troy Arts Council will feature The American Spiritual Ensemble on Friday, January 30, 2009, at 7:30 p.m., at Claudia Crosby Theatre. This group is composed of some of the finest singers in the United States.
