Cougars on a roll

The Cougars of CCA have a perfect 6-0 season record, and are 3-0 in the region.

On Dec. 5, the Varsity Cougars traveled to Autauga and came home with a big 55-34 win. Jake Hataway led the Cougars with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Eric Van Beek followed with 12 points and 6 assists.

Belgium newcomer Jelle Vermeyen added nine points and 12 rebounds and had 5 blocks. Davis Layton added 8 points, and senior Jake Page snatched 16 rebounds.

The CCA JV team came away with a close 27-25 victory over Autauga. Austin Brown led with 13 points.

CCA defeats Monroe

The Cougars hosted Monroe Academy, adding another big win to their season as they defeated the Volunteers 63-46. Jake Hataway led the Cougars with 17 points and 10 rebounds, followed by senior Jake Page with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Eric Van Beek and Davis Layton each added 10 points to the win.

PLA falls to Cougars

CCA defeated Pike Liberal Arts 51-40 in overtime action on Dec. 8. Leading scorers were Jake Hataway with 17 points and 10 rebounds; Jelle Vermeyen with 12 points and 10 rebounds; Eric Van Beek with 13 points and 8 assists; and Davis Layton with 9 points.

Justin Fuller was the leading scorer for the JV Cougars with 10 points in their 30-21 loss to Pike Lib.

CCA tramples Edgewood

In a big 66-47 victory, the Cougars added another win to their season record against Edgewood Academy on Dec. 9. Senior Jake Page was the leading scorer with 20 points and 12 rebounds, followed by Jake Hataway with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Eric Van Beek enjoyed 16 points and 7 assists, while Davis Layton chipped in nine points. Jelle Vermeyen added four points and four blocks for the Cougars.

Justin Fuller was the leading scorer for the JV Cougars with 6 points in their 24-10 loss to Edgewood.

The CCA Junior Varsity Cougars now stand at 1-4.

“We have a lot of work to do, but we have some great kids to work with,” CCA head coach Michael Malpass said.
