The Greenville Middle School boys wrapped up the 2008 season with a thrilling 30-27 win over Prattville Middle School Thursday night in Greenville.

Greenville led 6-5 at the end of the first quarter, and the lead stretched to 14-11 at halftime.

The Tigers managed to keep the lead for most of the second half, but Prattville made a run and pulled ahead late in the fourth quarter.

Greenville tied the game at 26 with 1:48 left after a free throw from Julius Lymon.

With less than a minute to go, Lymon hit a basket to put the Tigers ahead 28-27.

Lymon iced the game on a putback with 25 seconds left to play.

“I’m proud of the way we played,” said head coach Eric Burkett. “The biggest thing is that we showed sportsmanship all year.”

The game was the last of the season for the Tigers, who finished with a 7-3 record.

“All three of our losses were by a combined seven points,” Burkett said. “It’s been a great year, and a lot of these eighth graders will probably see some playing time next year when they play varsity.”

Brian Smith led the Tigers with 11 points, while Lymon added seven.

Earlier in the evening, the Greenville girls fell to Prattville 29-20.

Prattville led 14-6 at halftime, but Greenville made a big run to tie the game at 16 in the third quarter.

By the end of the third, the Lions had pulled ahead to a 20-16 lead and put the game away in the final period.

Justice Owens-Peagler was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 11 points and Kiara Baugh had five points.
