The Fort Dale girls fought through eight extra minutes of play against Pike Liberal Arts on Tuesday night and claimed a 63-58 win in double overtime.

Fort Dale held a 51-46 lead with a minute left in the game, but PLAS made an old-fashioned three-point play and tied the game on a score with 20 seconds left.

The Eagles had a chance to put it away in the closing seconds, but missed free throws cost FDA.

Missed free throws were a recurring theme for the overtime periods.

In the first overtime, both teams struggled from the free throw line and the score stood at 55-55 heading into the second OT.

In that period, the Eagles found their groove from the charity stripe to put the game away.

After Emily Boulware hit a shot to open the quarter, Fort Dale got two free throws each from Elizabeth Dunklin, Brittany Huckaba and Jessie Langford.

“We played well in the first half, but we lost some intensity in the second half,” said head coach William Johnson. “They are a great team, ranked in the top five and undefeated.”

“This was a total team win,” Johnson said. “We never quit, and I’m proud of them for that. Jessie Langford played well for us down the stretch.”

Scoring was spread around for the team, with Dunklin scoring 14 points to lead the way.

Emily Boulware and Abbey Martin each scored ten points, and Murphy Middleton and Langford both had nine points.

Martin also had eight rebounds.

Fort Dale was 24-47 from the free throw line, while Pike went 9-30.

The win puts Fort Dale at 3-2 overall, but with a perfect 2-0 record in the region.
