Attorney General Troy King announced on Thursday sheriff’s deputies from 39 counties had implemented “Operation Debt Net” to round up accused welfare fraud offenders.

Four of those offenders were arrested in Butler County between Dec. 8 and Dec. 10, according to Butler County Sheriff’s Reports obtained by The Advocate.

Deputies arrested these individuals utilizing information obtained through the Attorney General’s office. The suspects are:

n Sandra Cobb, 40, of Evergreen for failure to appear on a charge of second-degree theft of property.

n Glenda Denise Brazell, 26, of Georgiana for second-degree theft of property.

n Margie Kimble Hall, 59, of Georgiana for first-degree theft of property.

n Sandra Dean Smith, 47, of Greenville for first-degree theft of property.

Over 50 were arrested across the state, according to King.

The AG’s office had identified and provided information to sheriff’s offices in approximately 160 cases involving a total of $639,693.

“This operation sends a resounding message that welfare fraud is a crime that is taken seriously and will be prosecuted in the State of Alabama,” said King. “I stand together with the sheriffs of Alabama to throw a net of law enforcement around our state to round up those who have not yet faced justice for their alleged crimes.”
