A Luverne man was arrested Friday, Dec. 5, after a search warrant turned up approximately $800 worth of crack cocaine and over $1,200 in cash.

Marvin Jermaine Poole, 35, of 166 Barbara Ave. in Luverne, was arrested last Friday night around 10 p.m. Law enforcement had a search warrant for Poole and his property.

“We went in and secured the area and then conducted the search,” Crenshaw County Sheriff’s Investigator Heath Truman said. “We found the drugs in his bedroom.”

Truman explained that the $800 worth of crack cocaine was located in a breath mint container that was wrapped in a sock which had been placed down in a plastic container. They also found two partially burned marijuana cigarettes in the home. Approximately $1,282 was found in Poole’s pocket. Poole was charged with possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine), possession of marijuana, second degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Crenshaw County jail.

Truman said the search warrant stemmed from tips given by local residents.

“This was a joint effort by the Sheriff’s Office and the Luverne Police Department,” he said. “We want people to know that we are taking steps to stop illegal narcotics trafficking. If residents have any information about illegal activities, they should notify their local law enforcement.”

On the scene for the arrest with Truman were Investigator Ronnie White, Crenshaw County Sheriff’s deputies Mason Adcock and Jeremy Walker, and Luverne Police Officer Robert Brantley.
