The Greenville girls notched another win Friday night against Red Level before falling to Lanier on Saturday.

The Tigers picked up a road win over Red Level by the score of 49-31.

Greenville jumped out to a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, and by halftime, they had stretched the lead to 30-11.

The Tigers extended the lead even more in the third quarter before loosening up the defense in the fourth.

“We played good defense in the first half, and during the second half, we worked on running offensive sets,” said head coach Ronald Bogan. “We looked good for the first four or five minutes of the third quarter, but then we got complacent.”

“Our biggest problem is that we’re so used to applying pressure that when it comes time to play zone, we’re kind of dead,” he added. “We did have a pretty balanced offense with a lot of people scoring.”

Alexis Salter led the team with 11 points, while Amber Andrews added 10.

Both Rachael Williams and Lakedra Savage added eight points.

Following the win over Red Level, the Tigers hosted Sidney Lanier, where they fell 59-37.

“I think we were kind of intimidated by the name, and with them being a 6A school,” Bogan said. “That was by far our worst performance of the year.”

The Tigers hit some foul trouble in the second quarter, but the players off the bench held their own against Lanier.

“We were down by 15 when the subs came in, and the lead was only 20 at halftime,” Bogan said.

Bogan also said that Lanier’s defense surprised him — he expected to see a lot of man-to-man, but the Poets showed zone for most of the game.

The Tigers also struggled at the foul line, hitting only two of 15 free throws in the first half of the game.

Despite some troubles in the first half, the Tigers played better in the second half.

“In the second half, we held our own but we just couldn’t get over the hump.”

“The fourth quarter was by far our best quarter,” he added.

The Tigers host Red Level again next Monday.
