A little over a week since the beginning of the season, the Fort Dale Eagles are preparing for their first tournament of the year.

Both the boys and girls teams will be traveling to Selma to play in the Morgan Academy Pepsi Classic this weekend.

The field is composed of Fort Dale, Lee-Scott, Morgan and Central Christian.

“We’re expecting a good tournament,” said head coach William Johnson. “We’d like to go up there and play well.”

Fort Dale will play Morgan on both the boys’ and girls’ side during the tournament.

“We don’t have Morgan scheduled for the regular season, so it’s good that we’ll get to play them,” he said. “Both Lee-Scott and Central Christian have good teams.”

Johnson said there is also some added incentive for the girls when they face Morgan.

“We lost a heartbreaker to them last year, and that put us playing Faith Academy in the state tournament,” he said. “That’s some motivation for us.”

The girls’ bracket also features top competition in Lee-Scott.

“Their girls are probably the favorite in AAA,” Johnson said. “Our girls need to play well.”

The girls face Morgan at 5:30 on Friday and the boys play at 6:45.

The Eagles traveled to Macon-East on Tuesday to face the Knights, but results were unavailable at press time.
