The Pride of Greenville Garden Club got into the Christmas spirit at their November meeting last week.

The ladies gathered in the historic Herbert St. home of Nonnie Hardin, with Hardin’s daughters Jean Bauer and Mollie Utley assisting their mother as gracious hostesses for the event.

The club members brought festively wrapped packages, gifts for patients at the Veterans’ Hospital.

Guests Karen Rainey and Stephanie Steadham of Karen Rainey Interiors judged and chose the best-wrapped presents in the club’s annual competition.

City horticulturist Jennifer Stringer was also on hand to discuss the camellias she plans to plant in the city, to be purchased in part with a donation from Pride of Greenville.

Club president Brenda Morton presented Stringer with the donation.

Stringer plans to replace some of the old and dying camellias in Greenville, and also discussed her dream of creating a camellia garden somewhere in or close to the historic downtown Greenville district.

“We want to have a nice garden within walking distance of our downtown landmarks . . . with the different types of camellias identified with markers,” Stringer said.

Rainey and Steadham brought an array of glittering décor items from Rainey’s shop, which they displayed in the dining room of the Hardin home.

Rainey offered several holiday decorating ideas with the members.
