CAP&EA officers, Board chosen

The Central Alabama Poultry & Egg Association held its Fall Quarterly Meeting at the Tom Harbin Farm Center on Thursday, October 30th. Refreshments served at the meeting were provided by First South Farm Credit.

The program for the meeting was given by Bennie Moore, Conservation Agronomist for the NRCS. His responsibilities cover the entire state; however, his office is in Luverne.

Moore’s program covered nutrient management plans, location of emergency sites, overall emergency planning, and the importance of soil testing in the planning process.

Other business included the election of officers for the 2009 year. Officers elected were: President – Robert Parmer of Butler County;Vice-pres.-Michael Oglesby of Lowndes County; Secretary – Jennifer Meadows of Lowndes County; Treasurer – Charlotte Wilson of Butler County.

Board of Directors selected were as follows: Tom Crenshaw-Butler; Steve Rogers-Butler; Tony Wood-Crenshaw; Charles Gillion-Crenshaw; Andy Vardaro-Crenshaw; Harold Parmer-Butler; Willie Von Hilburn-Crenshaw;Russty Parrish-Extension Advisor – Crenshaw;Anthony Pinkston-Extension Advisor – Butler.

The meeting was attended by poultry growers from Crenshaw, Butler, Lowndes, Conecuh, Wilcox, Monroe and Montgomery counties. Growers attend these meetings to receive CEUs (Continuing Education Units), which are training hour credits to meet the requirements of their Nutrient Management Plans.
