KATHRYN MITCHELL GRANGER

GRANGER, Mrs. Kathryn Mitchell, 91, a lifelong resident of Luverne, AL, died Oct. 25, 2008. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 27, 2008 at 2 PM from Turner Chapel with Rev. Wesley Spivey and Rev. Ken Jackson officiating. Interment followed in Emmaus Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mrs. Granger was preceded in death by parents, Nolan and Kate Mitchell, brother, Guy Mitchell, sister, Doris Hardin and husband of 58 years, W.E. Granger. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Kay and Billy Thagard of Brantley, son Jack F. Granger of Birmingham, granddaughter and family Laura (John) Bailey, Libby and Clara Kathryn of Springville, grandson and family Tony (Candice) Thagard, Abby and Sam of Fairhope, nephew James Guy (Lou Ann) Mitchell of Tullahoma, TN, nephew Nolan (Margie) Hardin of Montevallo, niece Sue (Keith) Johnson of Bainbridge, OH, brother-in-law Ray (Jean) Granger of Birmingham. Mrs. Granger’s family extends special thanks to Dr. Charles Tompkins, the staff of Lake Haven Assisted Living, and to the staff of Luverne Health and Rehabilitation Center. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the Susanna Wesley and Young-at-Heart Groups of the Luverne United Methodist Church or your favorite charity.

OTHA MANCIL FOWLER

FOWLER, Mr. Otha Mancil, 95, died Friday, October 24, 2008 at a hospice facility in Daphne. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday October 28, 2008 from the Chapel of Turner Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Brown officiating. Interment followed in Emmaus Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing.

Mr. Fowler was a lifelong resident of Luverne and a member of Rutledge United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Era Odum Fowler. He is survived by his son, Thomas (Carolyn) Fowler of Monticello, Mississippi, his two grandchildren, Sheri (Bruce) Ikner of Daphne and Jeff (Deanna) Fowler of Phenix City and his five great-grandchildren, Brandon Ikner and Jordan Ikner of Daphne, Nikki Gurski of Prattville, Peyton Fowler and Kendall Fowler of Phenix City. He is also survived by his brother, Bert Fowler, of Luverne, and many nephews, nieces and cousins. The family would like to give a special thanks to all of his friends and neighbors for their prayer, love and support. The family would also like to give special thanks to the staff of Mercy Medical Hospice for the loving care given during his final days. SUE P. FRANKLIN

FRANKLIN, Sue P., died Tuesday, October 14, 2008. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Alabama Heritage Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Sullivan officiating. The family received friends from 9:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Sue is survived by her daughter, Kim (Neal) Neuenschwander of San Pedro, Calif.; her son, Phil (Nicole) Franklin of Big Canoe, Ga.; her sister, Betty (Ted) Jackson; her brother, Clarence (Sarah) Pouncey of Montgomery, Ala., and two special grandchildren, Andrew and Chris Neuenschwander. Also, two special nieces, Karen O’Neal and Lisa Garrett and three special nephews, Clarence Pouncey, III, Craig Pouncey and David Pouncey.

Sue was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. Sweet memories of her will always be cherished. Mother, we will celebrate our heavenly reunion with you and will cherish our earthly memories, holding you in our hearts forever.

The family wishes to express appreciation for the love and compassion shown by her many friends.

Pallbearers were Clarence Pouncey, III, Craig Pouncey, Steve Garrett, Terry Snider, George Leiner and Sam Maraman. Honorary pallbearers were Sue’s 1952 classmates from Highland Home High School. Additional honorary pallbearers were the Crump Elementary faculty and staff from 1968-1984 and the garden home ladies on Charleston Court.

JESSE DOLVIN KELLEY

KELLEY, Jesse Dolvin, 79, of Marietta, Ga., passed away on October 25, 2008. He was born in Luverne, AL and served in the Korean War as a Private First Class in the Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post 140 for 32 years, the 40 & 8 voiture 217 for 30 years and a long-time member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Luverne, AL. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Kelley; sons Clay Kelley (Beverly) of Auburn, GA and Greg Dickerson of Marietta, GA; daughters Anita Hamblin of Stockbridge, GA and Debra Ann Owen; 7 grandchildren; 3 great- grandchildren; and a sister, Dora Nell Tatum of Luverne, AL.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at H.M. Patterson & Son, Canton Hill Chapel at 2 p.m. with burial following at Georgia Memorial Park. SUSIE MAE WINGARD MARTIN

MARTIN, Susie Mae Wingard, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008, at the NHS Nursing Home in Florala, Alabama, at age 93. She was a lifelong resident of Alabama, primarily in Montgomery. She was born and raised near Wingard in Pike County. Her husband was Comer J. Martin of Fullers Crossroads, who died in 1960.

Susie is survived by three sons, Thomas J. Martin and family of Groveland, Calif., Joseph A. Martin and family of Opp, Ala., and James C. Martin and family of Opp, Ala. She is also survived by a sister, Kitty Herndon of Ramer, Ala., and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were grandchildren, Joe Martin, Jr., Tony Martin, Tiffney Ann Martin, Becky Hunter and Coy Connley.

A graveside service was held at Live Oak Cemetery east of Fullers Crossroads in Crenshaw County next to her husband, Comer, on Saturday, October 18, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. William Leverett officiating, and Leak-Memory Chapel directing.

In lieu of flowers, any donations should be made to the American Cancer Society.
