An injured Brantley Bulldog team faced an 0-8 Kinston team last Friday night in region play and came away with a big Homecoming victory, 41-0.

The Bulldogs are undefeated for the season, and are not only the Region 2 1A champions, they are also the one seed from Region 2. Brantley will host the first round of the playoffs against Marengo on Nov. 7.

Last Friday, sophomore quarterback Zach Johnson stepped up to the plate as he was 6 of 7 passing for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Junior quarterback Chase Hall has been out with an injury since the Brantley-McKenzie game, and it’s not sure when he will be able to return to the field, if at all this season.

The Bulldogs were up 41-0 by halftime over the visiting Bulldogs, and only six-minute quarters were played during the second half of the game.

Johnson passed for a 34-yard touchdown to senior Stephen Walker, and an 11-yard TD to junior Teven Daniels.

Running back Derek Holley scored on a 6-yard run, and Jamie Burnett added another TD on an 18-yard run.

Sophomore Cassius Tillis added another touchdown on a 14-yard run, bringing the final score to 41-0.

This week, the Bulldogs will host the 3A Daleville War Hawks to close out their regular season.

“Everybody is back this week except for Anthony Gulley and Chase Hall,” Brantley Assistant Coach Ashley Kilcrease said. “We don’t know when or if they’ll be back this season. It just all depends on their progress.”

Gulley suffered a severe high ankle sprain early in the first quarter against Geneva County.
