A musician with Greenville roots will be performing in Montgomery this week.

Paul Stabler Linden, the son of Shannon Stabler Linden and grandson of Dr. and Mrs. E.V. Stabler, will show off his harmonica and piano skills as he performs with noted acoustic roots blues musician Bill Sheffield.

The duo is slated to play at the Capitol Oyster Bar in Montgomery on Thursday, Oct. 16.

“I have been performing in various blues music groups since 1990. Like Bill, I have toured around the U.S. and some foreign countries as well,” Linden said.

He said he first met Sheffield in Atlanta in the 1990s and the two have performed together regularly since 2004.

Linden and Sheffield toured together across Western Europe in 2006, playing dates in England, France, Belgium and Holland.

Linden also performed harmonica on Sheffield’s CD, “Journal on a Shelf.”

Sheffield, an Atlanta native who has a self-described “obsession with the blues,” say he uses a fairly rare style on guitar inspired by John Hurt and Blind Blake.

“The guitar dances by itself,” Sheffield says. “You can sit there and play guitar and it just dances. Sometimes when I am really swinging it feels like my hands are disconnected from my body.”
