STEPHANIE LANE MARTIN

Miss Stephanie Lane Martin, 35, a resident of Luverne, Ala., died Saturday, October 4, 2008. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. on Monday, October 6, 2008, at the Luverne Emmaus Cemetery with Rev. Mike Green and Rev. Jim Tate officiating and Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Stephanie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Arthur Richburg and Ralph and Velma Martin.

Survivors include her parents, James and Wanda Martin of Luverne; grandmother, Merle Richburg of Goshen; sister, Theresa (Wes) Stinson of Goshen; niece, Malloy Stinson; nephew, Cole Stinson; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family requests that memorials may be made to Bell Center for Early Childhood Intervention, Birmingham, AL, Crenshaw Christian Academy or one’s favorite charity.

ROBERT JAKE CARTER

Robert Jake Carter, 79, a resident of Headland and formerly of Brantley, died Saturday, October 4, 2008. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2008, at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Turner Funeral Home of Luverne directing. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lillian Cook Carter. Survivors include his son, Jesse (Florence) Carter of Pasadena, TX; three grandchildren, Jarrett (Emmie) Carter of Headland, Lottie Ann Carter of Ariton, AL and Jon Michael Pinkerton Carter of Pasadena, TX; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Blaine Carter; sister, Mary (J.C.) Lowery; and three brothers, John (Janie) Carter, Ben (Chris) Carter and Bill Carter.

HAVARD RICHBURG

Havard Richburg, age 88, a resident of Luverne, Ala., died September 24, 2008. Mr. Richburg was a professor at Tuskegee University, the University of Wisconsin and Alabama A&M University.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 30, at 11:30 a.m. from New Hope Valley Baptist Church with Melvin Jackson officiating. Burial followed at Alabama Heritage Cemetery, Montgomery, Ala. Visitation was held Monday, September 29, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with a wake following from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Survivors include his wife, Lollie Richburg; son, Michael Richburg; brother, Raymond G. (Louise) Richburg, of Luverne, Ala.; sister-in-law, Ethel Richburg of Montgomery, Ala.; two sisters, Doris Jackson of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Magdalene Robinson of Greenville, Ala., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and special friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Michael Richburg, Jr., Scholarship Fund at Auburn University at Montgomery.
