The 2nd Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in Butler County is set for October 25.

The event will return to Confederate Park in downtown Greenville, and Sheriff Kenny Harden is expecting a tremendous turnout.

“Last year’s crowd for our first event was a good one. And we are planning for an even bigger and better event this year,” Harden said. “This is a great time for folks to meet and greet our law enforcement officers.”

Planned from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Law Enforcement Appreciation Day will offer area families “a free day of fun,” says Lt. Sharon Smith, who is co-chairing the event with Capt. Al McKee, jail administrator.

“This is something for the entire community to attend and we have things to offer folks of all ages,” Smith said.

Free food, including popcorn, hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue chicken, Boston Butt, soft drinks and chips, will all be provided.

In addition, Travis Waters of the Georgiana Police Department will serve as deejay for the day so folks can move to the groove.

“We also have plenty of fun free games and activities planned for the children, including a duck pond, face painting and balloon jump,” Smith said.

Youngsters will receive special goody bags while the adults can take home souvenirs of the day.

“Everyone will be eligible to receive great prizes, including a chance to win the grand prize, a 25” color TV,” Smith said.

Area technical schools and colleges will have booths, with local attorneys also on hand to offer complimentary legal advice. The Butler County Health Department will be there to answer questions concerning the services they offer, and Mid-South Home Health will be on hand to offer well-being checks to attendees.

“We have invited all our city and county elected officials to come and be with us that day,” McKee said.

A face familiar to television viewers will also be present October 25.

“Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham, who a lot of people have seen on the television show ‘County Law,’ will be our special guest speaker,” McKee said.”We have days to honor our law enforcement officers. This is law enforcement’s chance to say thank you to the community for supporting us.”
