The Fort Dale volleyball team had their worst week of the season this past week, and not just because of losses to Hooper and Pike Liberal Arts.

The Eagles have also lost several players due to injury and sickness.

“Our team has dwindled a bit because of injuries,” said head coach Scarlett Anderson.

Sarah Sims suffered a torn tendon in her ankle and will be in a boot for a couple of weeks and Tiffany Simms is most likely out for the season with a case of mononucleosis.

Erin Taylor and Rebecca Foster have also been fighting sickness, while Tosh Taylor is recovering from a back injury.

“The girls we’ve put in the game to fill the holes have done well, but we’re still working on team chemistry,” Anderson said.

Anderson said she hopes many of the team’s mistakes will improve as the new lineup gets used to playing with each other.

Fort Dale started the week with a loss to Hooper Academy 18-25, 19-25, 25-21 and 21-25.

Emily Boulware had five aces and five kills, while Karli Boulware came through with nine assists and six dinks.

Murphy Middleton helped out defensively with four digs and two blocks.

The Eagles then faced Pike Liberal Arts in a doubleheader on Thursday.

In the first game, the Eagles lost 22-25, 8-25 and 15-25.

The Eagles fell in the second game 17-25, 20-25 and 17-25.

“We should have won those games, but the team just wasn’t prepared to play together,” Anderson said. “There was a little confusion out there. We played well during the first set, but nothing came together after that.”

Middleton had three aces in the first game, Emily Boulware had four kills, and Karli Boulware came up with seven assists.

Brooke Wilson led the way with four digs, but Middleton and Erin Taylor were close behind with three each.

In the second game, Middleton had four aces and seven kills, Taylor had eight assists and Middleton also came through with three digs.

Anderson said the team will spend time practicing to get ready for Monday’s game against Macon-East.

“We’ve got to try to fix what’s wrong and get back what we lost,” she said. “Hopefully we’re going to come back refreshed on Monday.”
