McKenzie fans are probably accustomed to watching Auburn or Alabama on Saturdays, but they’ll get a chance to watch their McKenzie Tigers this weekend.

McKenzie is set to face J.U. Blacksher this Saturday night.

“We’re their homecoming game,” said head coach Miles Brown. “As they told me, it’s a tradition to have the game on Saturday with an all-day extravaganza.”

The Saturday date is unusual for both the players and coaches, and Brown talked about the differences between a Friday and a Saturday game.

“You’ve got to do some careful planning, and this is my first Saturday game as a coach,” he said. “We’re going to use common sense and not overdo things. We ran a little on Monday, went over some of the gameplan, and then turned them loose.”

“We’re treating Tuesday like a Monday practice,” Brown continued. “That’s all we’re going to do – push things back a day.”

Brown also said that when Saturday rolls around, he’ll get the team together to prepare.

“We want them to be around us on Saturday and have a structured day,” he said.

The game features two 4-0 teams, and because of the date, it should attract fans from the surrounding area that want to see live football.

“They are a very physical ball club, and they have a lot of good players,” Brown said. “They’re also very powerful, and look similar to Ariton.”

He also said that the Tigers will have to keep working to get better.

“We’re going to have to correct the mistakes we’ve been making, because right now we’re still an immature football team,” Brown said. “We’re going to try to keep getting better and correcting what we’ve talked about.”

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday in Uriah.
