It’s coming in a few short weeks – the day when WQZX (Q-94) is hijacked for a day.

Fear not – it’s all for a very good cause.

The Greenville Lions will bring Radio Day to the airwaves on October 29, the last Wednesday of the month.

As always, Lions will be at the microphones, reading ads for participating businesses. They will also be sharing on-air trivia questions, giving listeners a chance to call in and win an array of door prizes throughout the day.

“We hope our local businesses and leaders will once again support us as we work to raise monies for Lions sight-saving charities,” said Hubert Little, Lion president.

The funds aid visually-impaired individuals on a local, national and international level.

Monies raised by the Greenville Lions during Radio Day go to support Southeastern Guide Dogs for the Blind, Alabama Sight Foundation, free exams and eyeglasses for local indigent patients, free eye and hearing programs for county elementary students, Camp Seale Harris, camp for diabetic youth, Lions Club Leadership Camp for high school students and Lions Club International charitable programs.

Ads for Radio Day are $50. Lion Volunteers will read each ad a minimum of two times during the day. Sponsors who donate door prizes get extra mentions on the air along with the sincere gratitude of the Lions.

In the afternoon, the now famous “Ugliest Man in Butler County” Contest is held, with voters ringing in to tally up numbers for their favorite “ugliest man.”

The winner will ride upon his white ceramic throne during the city’s annual Christmas parade.

“We have a great time; it’s all in good fun and for a good cause,” said Little.

“We greatly appreciate all who support us each year on Radio Day.”
