Two members of the Greenville Fine Arts League were recent participants in the Selma Art Guild’s juried summer show.

Jean Cook and Mary Croley each submitted two paintings; each had two accepted.

Cook and Croley both took home ribbons for their artwork.

Cook was awarded an Honorable Mention in the Opaque Category for “Changing Seasons.”

Croley also earned an Honorable Mention in the Mixed Media Competition for her work, “The Archangel Uriel Reveals the Prophecy.”

The show was held from August 1 through August 30 with a special preview reception on August 1 and an opening reception on August 3.

The Selma Art Guild Gallery, the location for the show, is located in an atmospheric turn-of-the-century cottage in the Olde Towne District of historic Selma.

“This is a very well-respected juried show and both Jean and I were delighted to have our work not only accepted but also judged worthy of a ribbon,” Croley said.

Juror Larry Manning holds degrees in Art Education and Fine Arts from Florida State University and a Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics from the University of Mississippi. He has continued his studies in the arts at Cornell University, the University of Georgia at Cortona, Italy and the Penland School of Crafts.

Since his retirement from a long teaching career, Manning is now a full-time artist and serves as founder and director of Alabama Clay Conferences.

Cook’s work may be seen at the Selma Art Guild Gallery, SACS Gallery in Montgomery, and at SAC’s online gallery.

One of her paintings has been juried into the Regions Bank show where it is now on display.

Croley’s work may be seen at Grayson’s of Greenville, Black Belt Treasures in Camden, and online at The Experimental Artists of America Gallery.
