Brantley’s Anthony Gulley opened last Friday night’s game with a 78-yard touchdown run, and he never looked back.

The Bulldogs hit the road to Providence Christian and came home with a whopping 48-8 victory, with four of those touchdowns belonging to Gulley. This was the first region game for the Bulldogs.

Gulley ran the opening kickoff back 78 yards to start the scoring spree; the point-after attempt was no good, but the Bulldogs were on the board 6-0.

Still in the first quarter, quarterback Chase Hall threw a 60-yard pass to Gulley for the second touchdown of the night. Britt Barnes caught a two-point conversion to bring the score to 14-0.

During the second quarter, Gulley fired down the field for 90 yards for his third TD of the night. Barnes’ PAT was good, and Providence remained shut out at 21-0.

Before the end of the first half, Gulley scored again on a 72-yard punt return, while Stephen Walker added another touchdown on a four-yard run to put the Bulldogs in a comfortable 34-0 lead at halftime.

Third quarter action saw Hall hit junior Chris Walker with a 21-yard touchdown pass, while Barnes’ PAT was good, bringing the score to 41-0.

In the fourth quarter, sophomore running back Devontay Porter added the final points for the Bulldogs with a 40-yard run. Senior Britt Barnes again split the uprights, and Brantley had 48 points on the board.

The Eagles finally mustered a score in the last four minutes of the game to prevent a total shutout. The final score was 48-8.

“I thought we got off to a good start,” Brantley head coach David Lowery said. “The kids played hard.”

“We didn’t play too well down there last year, even though we won the game,” he added, “but I thought we played much better this year.”

Last year, Brantley beat the Eagles 49-28.

“Everybody got to play, so the young guys got some good experience,” Lowery said.

Senior standout Anthony Gulley had two carries for 117 yards, Devontay Porter had six carries for 69 yards, and Stephen Walker had six carries for 33 yards.

Quarterback Chase Hall finished 5 of 6 passing completions for 115 yards and two TDs, and junior Tory Upshaw had three receptions for 34 yards.

On defense, Chris Walker racked up nine solos, Stephen Walker had nine solos and one tackle for loss, while Michael Walker and Tory Upshaw pulled down 10 solos each.

Gulley and Adam Hill each had one interception.

This week, the Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0) will host Florala in region action. Florala lost to McKenzie last week 56-8.
