Hitting the road for week three

Published 4:29 pm Wednesday, September 10, 2008

This week, it looks like our Butler County teams will have to be road warriors if they’re going to pull out a win this week.

Fort Dale is the lone county team to stay at home.

Hopefully Fort Dale and McKenzie can continue to win while Greenville and Georgiana bust their slumps.

Greenville at Monroe County

The Tigers travel south to play Monroe County, who has also had some tough losses this season.

Greenville is in the process of looking for players to step up, and I think they may find a few against Monroe County.

I don’t think the trip will affect them, and they’ll pull out their first win of the season.

Fort Dale vs Pike Liberal Arts

Pike Lib has had a good season so far with lots of offense.

They opened with a 23-7 win over Morgan followed by a 47-34 victory over Hooper.

It looks like the Eagles are going to have their hands full with the Patriots.

Fort Dale has also had some bumps and bruises over the last couple of weeks, so we’ll have to see how that affects them.

Georgiana at Shelby County

The Panthers have the unfortunate task of playing Shelby County, who knocked off perennial 5A powerhouse Briarwood Christian last week.

Maybe “knocked off” is too tame of a term. Annihilated is probably more like it.

While they may still be living off that win, the Panthers are still huge underdogs.

Georgiana is looking to break their slump, I don’t think this is the week it’ll happen.

McKenzie at Ariton

McKenzie is headed to face a Purple Cats team that is also 2-0 so far this season.

You can bet that McKenzie hasn’t forgotten the 57-6 loss to Ariton on homecoming last season.

So far this season, McKenzie has lived off the big play, and the outcome of this game will be determined by how well Ariton limits that.

The Tigers have already beaten one team (Excel) that’s probably headed to the playoffs, but they’ll have their hands full with Ariton.

Current record: 4-4
