Last week wasn’t a bad week for me, but it doesn’t get any easier this week.

This week marks the beginning of region play for all of our area teams except Georgiana.

Let’s see how I think things will turn out.

Greenville vs Carver

If Carver’s opener against Jeff Davis is any indication, the Greenville defense is going to be put to the test this week against the Wolverines.

However, I’m not sure how good Jeff Davis is, so I don’t know how to gauge Carver’s performance.

On the other hand, the Tigers very nearly pulled out a victory over arch-rival Charles Henderson, a team that went undefeated during the regular season last year.

That says a lot about the direction Greenville is headed.

I’m looking for the Greenville defense to put a lockdown on Carver, and the Tigers to pull out the home opener.

Greenville 24, Carver 18

Fort Dale at Glenwood

The Eagles are traveling to Phenix City to face off against Glenwood.

Fort Dale had three losses last season, and the largest one of those was a 28-0 beating at the hands of Glenwood.

You can bet the Eagles will have their guns loaded and ready for them.

However, the quarterback position is a question mark for Fort Dale.

Dustin Till will almost certainly be out with an injured leg, but Hunter Armstrong saw some action against Prattville and during the spring.

The Eagles will need some solid offensive play and a strong defense to beat Glenwood.

I see the Gators winning this game, but it’ll be much closer than last year.

Glenwood 35, Fort Dale 27

Georgiana at J.U. Blacksher

While other teams are working on the first week of region play, this is week number two for the Georgiana Panthers.

Up this week is another region opponent in J.U. Blacksher.

The Bulldogs were a decent team last season, and they should be pretty good this year.

After the mistakes in last week’s game, you can bet that the Panthers will be in top form for this game to avoid going even deeper in the hole with an 0-2 record in the region.

There may still be some mistakes, but I bet they won’t be as big as those last week.

Georgiana 23, Blacksher 13

McKenzie vs Florala

Last year, the Tigers almost pulled off a huge come-from-behind upset against the Wildcats, and that was after the team had been hit with a lot of injuries.

This year, McKenzie comes in with a lot of experience, while Florala has lost a number of starters.

In fact, Florala only has one returning starter from last season.

With a new head coach and a McKenzie team looking for some payback, this may be the beginning of a rebuilding year for the Wildcats.
