Last week was a fun week, even though it was the opening weekend. You had your normal FBS (formerly Division IA) beatdowns of FCS (formerly Division IAA), but you also had some really good games.

A couple of things that stood out to me:

1) The fantastic game between Tennessee and UCLA.

2) Utah beating Michigan at the Big House.

The only way I’m ever picking Michigan again in the first game of the year is if they open up with the Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis Jaguars. And maybe not even then.

Anyway, on to this week’s picks.

Alabama vs Tulane

I missed the pick with Alabama last week.

Ok, I really missed the pick with Alabama last week.

Even before last week’s whoopin’, I didn’t think Alabama would have any trouble with Tulane.

Tulane has had a rough week because of the relocation from New Orleans, and I guarantee that tickets to Bryant-Denny are hotter than a billy goat in a pepper patch with all the Bama fans dying to get in and see the Tide play.

With over 92,000 people packed in there, you can bet it’s not going to be pleasant for the Green Wave.

Alabama 42, Tulane 6

Auburn vs Southern Miss

Even though Auburn won pretty handily last week against ULM, it wasn’t quite the offensive show the Tiger faithful were looking for.

Southern Miss is probably a more dangerous team than ULM, so Auburn better get their act together or get prepared for a fight.

Auburn has to pick a quarterback and find some kind of offensive consistency.

I think last week probably woke them up a little bit, and they’ll be ready for the Golden Eagles and their new head coach.

Troy at LSU

This game was scheduled for today, but it got moved to November, when both teams have an open date, because of Hurricane Gustav.
